Introduction

What Pinmist does, what it needs, and what it will not do.

Pinmist changes the location your iPhone reports to apps. It runs on a Mac or a Windows PC. You connect your iPhone with a cable, pick a place on the map, and every app that asks iOS where you are gets that place instead.

How it works

Apple lets developers simulate a location on a connected iPhone, so they can test their apps without travelling. Pinmist uses that same developer feature and puts a map on top of it. Nothing is installed on the iPhone and there is no jailbreak.

Because it is a developer feature, it needs Developer Mode, a switch in the iPhone's settings. Pinmist shows you where to find it the first time. See Set up your iPhone.

What you need

  • An iPhone on iOS 17.4 to iOS 27
  • A Mac with macOS 13 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel, or a PC with Windows 10 or later
  • A USB cable that carries data, not only charge
  • A Pinmist subscription from the pricing page. The email you buy it with is your account.

Two modes

  • Static holds your location at one spot until you reset it. See Static mode.
  • Routes moves your location along a road route at walking, cycling or driving speed. See Routes mode.

You can save places and routes as bookmarks, and Pinmist keeps a history of the locations and routes you have used.

What to expect

  • A change shows up in apps within one to three seconds.
  • Your real location comes back when you press Reset location, unplug the cable or restart the iPhone.
  • Pinmist changes the reported location only. It does not fake the motion sensors, so step counts and drive detection still see what you are really doing.
  • Many apps forbid simulated locations in their terms of service and may suspend accounts that use them. You are responsible for following the rules of the apps you use.
  • Pinmist is for adults aged 18 or over, using devices they own.

Quick start

  1. Install Pinmist on macOS or on Windows and sign in with the email you bought it with.
  2. Set up your iPhone: trust the computer, turn on Developer Mode and restart once.
  3. Pick a spot on the map and press Change location.
